fringe

Posted on September 17, 2008

I started watching the new J.J. Abrams show, Fringe. I’m a fan of science induced weirdness and phenomenon, so I’ll stick with it for a few more episodes and see where it goes. Being the type nerd that I am, the other thing that caught my attention was how they did the location captions. Instead of printed in small type at the bottom of the screen, they’re displayed as solid 3D letters floating within the scene and subject to light changes, camera movement, etc. I’ve seen it done in print ads and commercials, but still thought it was noteworthy and neat.

the efffect is excellent. and very advertorial. reminds me of an old 1950s show with big polystyrene lettering.
